Sara Monforte’s team lost on their league debut against Real Sociedad
Villarreal Women began their season in Liga F at a very complicated stadium, Zubieta, and against a tough opponent such as Real Sociedad, who finished runner-up in the league last season. The Yellows fought their hearts out and left everything on the pitch until the final whistle, even though they did not get any points.
The match was very even for both teams. In fact the Yellows had the first chance of the game with a shot from Ainoa Campo which the goalkeeper saved. In the same piece of play from the rebound, Sheila Guijarro tried her luck but without success. For most part, the Basques were more effective and made their first opportunity count. In the sixth minute of the game, Jansen finished well a cross to the back post Nerea Eizaguirre. In the final minutes of the first half, Real Sociedad had some more chances to increase the score, however their chances were denied by the great Yellow defence.
After half time, Villarreal Women suffered again as they conceded the second goal in the opening minutes. A corner into the near post by Nerea Eizaguirre hit Lara Mata and went into the back of the net to make it 0-2. Sara Monforte’s side continued looking to get one back, but luck wasn’t on their side.
The next match for Villarreal’s Women will take place next Sunday 29th September, at 5pm CEST, against FC Barcelona at the Mini Estadi at the Miralcamp Training Ground.
