Sara Monforte’s side were unable to win on their trip to the island
Villarreal Femenino were outclassed by UDG Tenerife on Matchday 6 of the 2022/23 Finetwork Liga F season. The match was also marked by an injury to Yellows striker Rocío García. The goals were scored by Blom and Mari José.
UDG Tenerife struck the first blow just after kick-off. It was just three minutes into the game when the home side, taking advantage of the yellow goalkeeper’s advanced position, opened the scoring thanks to a powerful shot from Blom. The home side continued to create danger close to the area thanks to players such as Maria José, Koko and Estella, who hit the crossbar with a powerful shot. For their part, the Yellows put up a good high block defence, making it difficult for the home side to play at times. On the offensive side, Sara Monforte’s side managed to make progress through good combination play, although they lacked a decent effort on goal. Thus, the game went to the break with a minimal advantage for UDG Tenerife.
In the second half, Villarreal Femenino continued to be unlucky, despite constant attempts by the players to close the gap. The substitutes introduced, such as Cienfu and Fatou Kanteh, gave the Yellows a boost. However, Rocío García’s injury, in the 63rd minute, was like a bucket of cold water for the away side. Mari José put the game to bed just six minutes later with a free kick.
