Defeat in Ipurúa (2-0)

Villarreal B left Eibar with no reward despite a good performance

Villarreal B, despite looking organised and sharp at all times, came away from their visit to Ipurúa empty-handed against an Eibar side that showed great attacking intent throughout the game (2-0). The Yellows, well positioned and willing, tried everything they could, but the solidity of the home side ended up ruining the result for the Mini Submarine.

Although Eibar tried to be incisive from the opening stages, the Yellows almost caused a scare after just 30 seconds, when Requena intercepted a goal-kick just yards from goal that almost beat Luca. The Basque outfit took control of the ball, but the Yellows remained tidy and waited for their moment.

After the initial onslaught, possession began to even out and, with it, the game. The home side were looking to penetrate the Yellows’ box with one eye on the Mini Submarine’s swift steals in their own area. In the 37th minute, and following a Villarreal B breakaway, Eibar’s pressure took effect and Sergio León scored the first.

In the second half, Miguel Álvarez’s men seized the initiative and threatened the area with shots from Requena and Collado, as well as a direct kick and a lovely lob from Ontiveros, which Luca narrowly blocked. However, the home side, from the penalty spot, put the game to bed in the 73rd minute through Corpas.

Villarreal B will play their next game at the Estadio de la Cerámica against Leganés on matchday 32 of LaLiga Hypermotion (Saturday 23rd, 6:30pm CET).
