The Villarreal manager defines the match against Granada as ‘intense and crazy’

Villarreal manager Javi Calleja underlined after the match against Granada that his team failed to see out the tie: “We had it in our hands, but we didn’t know how to see out the match.” The head coach added that his side need to be more efficient: “When we get into the box, we need to be more convincing, both with and without the ball. It was an intense and crazy match.”

He underlined that the away side were impressive: “Granada showed a lot of personality, they’re hungry to be in Primera and they go away with a fair point.” Despite going away with a point when it looked like the Yellows would get all three, Calleja is optimistic ahead of the rest of the season: “We had it in out hands, but we have to carry on, it’s the first league match and we have to be in a good place to beat Levante.”

The best part of his side, according to Calleja, was the attacking danger: “We’re extremely capable when it comes to generating chances and scoring, even if we didn’t know how to see out the game. Granada are dangerous from set pieces.”

To conclude, the head coach was frustrated that the Yellows didn’t start the match on top: “How we came out in the first half annoys me. We need to be more determined.”
