The Yellows head coach has underlined the motivation that the Submarine have ahead of the demanding game against Atlético Madrid

Villarreal manager Javi Calleja appeared this Friday in front of the media to analyse the build-up to the match against Atlético Madrid (Sunday, 9pm CET). The Yellows head coach has underlined the motivation that the Submarine have to try and win at the Wanda Metropolitano: “Winning there is our challenge. We’re going into the game hungry. We’re on a good run and we want to make the most of that.”

To obtain a positive result against the team from the capital, Calleja believes his team need to be loyal to their DNA: “We must be a team with character, a recognisable team, as we’ve shown in recent games. If we want to surprise them, we need to have possession of the ball.”

Finally, Calleja underlined the difficulty involved in facing Atlético Madrid, who are in a good place after their win over Liverpool (1-0) in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16: “They’ll have been strengthened mentally, after beating the most in-form team in Europe. That will give them confidence. They are a solid block who know how to compete. They defend with authority and have a lot of quality up front.”
