The manager is now the coach with the third most LaLiga wins to his name while on the Villarreal bench (30)

Javi Calleja has stepped up to the podium. The manager from Madrid has become, after yesterday’s win against RCD Espanyol (0-1) in the manager with the third most LaLiga wins (30 in 73 matches). Only Marcelino García Toral (51 in 114 matches) and Manuel Pellegrini (92 in 190 games) beat the current manager. He is level with Juan Carlos Garrido, who managed 30 in 72.

Javi Calleja is also now the manager who has managed the fourth most games for Villarreal in the top flight of Spanish football (73), only behind Pellegrini (190), Marcelino (114) and Víctor Muñoz (77).

Calleja has taken charge of 73 games in LaLiga for the Yellow Submarine, winning 30, drawing 18 and losing 25 (scoring 114 goals and conceding 96).

On the verge of reaching 100 games

In all competitions, Calleja has managed 97 games, and should reach 100 against Athletic Club at the Estadio de la Cerámica (Sunday, 3rd November).
