The Submarine continue to prepare for the start of the league season
This Friday, at 7pm CEST, Villarreal CF face Borussia Dortmund at the Cashpoint Arena (Austria). The match against the German side will be the third of the European Summer Tour 2022 Color Start for the Yellows, after facing Sporting CP and PSV Eindhoven last week.
Borussia Dortmund is one of the leading clubs in Germany. They have won a UEFA Champions League in the 96/96 season, eight Bundesligas, five DFB-Pokals and eight German Super Cups. Last season they were Bundesliga runners-up, finishing eight points off FC Bayern.
Despite a decent domestic season, in Europe, the 21/22 season was disappointing for them. After not reaching the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League, but finishing third to fall into the UEFA Europa League, the team, then led by Marco Rose, lost in the Round of 32 to Rangers FC.
After Rose was dismissed in May, Edin Terzic – who led the team in 20/21 – took over for the 22/23 season. A number of talented players such as Robert Lewandowski, Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho, Ousmane Dembélé and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have played for Dortmund. They still have experienced players such as Marco Reus and Mats Hummels in their ranks, but also young talent such as Giovanni Reyna, Jude Bellingham and Karim Adeyemi.
