The Villarreal striker has been called up to play in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier

Villarreal forward, Cédric Bakambu, has been called up to play for the Democratic Republic of the Congo for their next international fixture. On Sunday 13th November, Jean-Florent Ibenge’s side will play against Guinea (6:30pm), in a match that corresponds with Matchday 2 of the Russia 2018 World Cup Qualifying stage. The clash will take place at the Stade du 28 Septembre stadium, in Conakri (capital of Guinea).     

Bakambu played in the France youth teams, but made his debut for the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the end of 2015. As of today he has played 8 matches and scored 3 goals. In the last international break he represented his country for 13 minutes as they thrashed Libya 4-0.

It should be noted that there are now three Villarreal First Team players that have been called up by their respective national teams. Rukavina for Serbia and previously Mateo Musacchio for Argentina.
