The Villarreal youngsters started against Romania in a game that saw Spain qualify for the Elite Round

Villarreal B footballers Iván Morante and Álex Baena started yesterday in Spain U19s’ 1-0 win over Romania which sees the Spanish side qualify for next summer’s Elite Round of qualifying for the 2020 European U19 Championships, where Spain will try and qualify for the tournament in Northern Ireland next summer.

Morante played 90 minutes, while Baena was substituted in the 67th. The only goal of the tie, which took place at the FK Rad Stadium in Belgrade, came from Borja Sainz.

Spain have one more match in the qualifying section for the Elite Round, and will face Serbia on Monday, but with the knowledge that they already have reached the next round.

The schedule for Spain U19s is as follows (time in Spain):

  • Tuesday 8th October: Spain vs Lithuania (2-0)
  • Friday 11th October: Spain vs Romania (1-0).
  • Monday 14th October: Serbia vs Spain, 2pm, Sports Center of FA Serbia (Stara Pazova).
