Villarreal CF will try and celebrate Easter with a win against the side from the Spanish capital
The Submarine are in the best moment of the season. The Yellows have gone nine games unbeaten in the league and Marcelino García Toral has been named EA Sports LaLiga Coach of the Month for March, which means they will face Atlético de Madrid with a clear upward trajectory.
On Monday, after the national team break, they will play the match corresponding to Matchday 30 of the 2023/24 LALIGA EA SPORTS season, in which Marcelino’s side will host Atlético de Madrid at the Estadio de la Cerámica (9pm CEST), and will be looking to celebrate Easter with a victory to continue with the climbing project and fight for the European positions.
Villarreal CF come into the game after beating Valencia CF 1-0 in the Derbi de la Comunitat, their second home win of the year. This good dynamic puts them four points behind the seventh place that marks the European places.
On the other hand, the visitors are not in the best of form going into the game. In their last two games in LALIGA, they have suffered two defeats against Cádiz (2-0) and last time out at home to FC Barcelona (0-3). Atlético de Madrid currently occupy fifth place in the standings with 55 points and will be looking for a win against the Submarine to fight for fourth place.
Monday’s match will be a difficult challenge for Villarreal CF, who will face a top level opponent, present in the Champions League quarter-finals. However, the head-to-head record favours the Submarine at La Cerámica. In the 21 LaLiga meetings between the two teams at the Yellows’ home ground, Villarreal CF have won nine, drawn eight and lost four. Among the Yellows’ victories, the 3-0 win on 12th December 2016 stands out, with Manu Trigueros, Jonathan Dos Santos and Roberto Soriano all finding the net.
