Villarreal still deserved more, but only earned a point at the Estadio de la Cerámica

Villarreal drew against Getafe (1-1). The Yellows again earned a point, although they deserved a bigger prize at the Estadio de la Cerámica. A goal from Alberto Moreno cancelled out Getafe’s opening goal in the first half. After the equaliser, the Yellows looked for a comeback, but they were unable to find the right way to make it happen

The Submarine hosted the Madrid side after a remarkable improvement in recent matches, which ended with a prestigious win against Barça and three draws in which they deserved better. Now, Marcelino’s men had a new test to achieve what has eluded the Submarine the most this season: winning at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Villarreal came into the game well. Intense and decisive. Without hesitation against a Getafe side who are tough and know how to be competitive for 90 minutes. The first clear chance of the match was for the home side. It came in the 12th minute with an offside goal by Guedes.

The Yellows carried the weight of the game, generating danger with quick transitions. But the first blow of the match was to come from the visitors. In a set piece, Maksimovic latched onto the rebound -cleared by Mosquera- to beat Jorgensen with a hard shot from the heart of the area after overcoming a sea of legs.

Getafe took the lead at La Cerámica, but the 0-1 scoreline did not alter the game plan one bit. The Yellows continued to dominate the game and generated chances in their opponents’ half. The clearest chance came from a corner on the half hour mark. Santi Comesaña came up against Soria almost on the goal line, in an attempt to deflect Raúl Albiol’s somewhat forced shot from Álex Baena’s corner.
With the lead on the scoreboard, Bordalás’ team began to impede the continuity of the game with countless interruptions. Marcelino’s men did not despair, however, and with patience and tenacity, they found the goal. In the 55th minute, Alberto Moreno scored the equaliser with a powerful left-footed shot from inside the area. The left-back took advantage of a ball rejected by Djené after a shot from the edge of the area by Comesaña.

fter the 1-1 draw, both the Yellows and Blues stepped up a gear. To try to turn the balance, Marcelino introduced changes, bringing on Morales, Capoue, Parejo and Cuenca. In search of a comeback.

Morales had a chance in the 74th minute. After a spur pass from Gerard Moreno. A few minutes later, Getafe replied with a shot from a corner that went wide. The game was wide open and waiting for one of the two teams to strike the knockout blow. Neither managed to do so and the game ended with a share of the points at La Cerámica

Shortly before the end, Bertrand Traoré came on to make his debut for Villarreal CF.
