The defender from Seville is happy to return to the team, get the victory and keep a clean sheet

Alberto Moreno is back. The defender from Seville was instrumental in the Yellows win against RCD Espanyol, leaving the injury that had kept him off the pitch for 55 days firmly behind him: “It was hard to physically endure the 90 minutes after coming back from an injury. In the end, you don’t have that competitive rhythm, but I’m very happy to have returned to the team, and to cap it off with a victory and a clean sheet”.

The Yellows full-back explained that his time off the pitch has been tough, after arriving at the club with enthusiasm and desire to succeed: “I arrived in Vila-real eager to demonstrate my best level and help the club to grow. I have been unlucky with injuries at the start of this season. That’s football. In those times, you have to be strong. Now I’m fine and I hope I can remain this way for a long time.”

The win at the RCDE Stadium puts Villarreal in a good position in the table. Alberto Moreno seems optimistic about the current situation: “We have to go game by game. Without thinking further in the future, but of course moving up the table gives us a lot of confidence. We are doing well and we want to keep going like this. As a result, we are working hard on our defensive structure. Up front we have a lot of quality and we are scoring goals with ease. You can see that we are already reaping the rewards of our defensive work with the clean sheet against Espanyol.”

Finally, the Andalusian defender acknowledged that he feels in tune with what his coach, Javi Calleja, wants from him: “I am quite an attacking player. The manager’s style of play suits my game perfectly. The boss wants the wingers to work with us so that we are more attacking, but without leaving the defence too vulnerable. It’s a style of football which I like because we always want to take the initiative and put pressure on our rivals.”
