The striker was “very happy” to make his loan deal official, which lasts until the end of the season
Adrián López is back and ready to triumph in Yellow once again. At midday today, the Asturian striker had his official presentation as a new Villarreal CF player in the press room at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva), an event that was led by club CEO, Fernando Roig Negueroles. Adrián, who has come to Villarreal on loan from FC Porto until the end of the season, will wear the number 15 shirt and he was really excited: “I’m so happy to be back here. I was really content here from the start. I was very lucky to stumble upon this club, who spoiled me from day one. I’m really excited to be here and enthusiastic to help the team in every way I can”.
The forward revealed that to come back to Villarreal CF was a priority for him: “I always wanted to return to Villarreal. When the possibility came up for me to come back here I told my agents to try to make it happen. I would have liked to have been here since the start of the season. Last year was too short for me, but it finished with three very important months for me personally and for the team, because we got to the Champions League Play-offs and we fell in the Semi-finals of the Europa League against a great side”.
Adrián López assured that he will adapt quickly to the team: “I will adapt very quickly because I already know everyone. There haven’t been too many changes in the team. The base is the same. I’ve seen many of Villarreal’s matches from Porto and the style of play is very similar. I trained with the team today and I felt very good. If the Manager picks me to play I’m already ready and cannot wait to help. The Manager has welcomed me and encouraged me to work hard right away”.
Villarreal’s new number 15 has not given a number of goals, but promised delivery: “My aim is to help. I will try to play as many minutes as best I can. As strikers we have the responsibility to score goals, but you also have to play well and provide assists. The more goals I score the better”.
Lastly, Adrián analyzed the equality of the LaLiga Santander: “LaLiga is very even. There are many quality teams. Our aim is to go for the three points in every match. This team has shown for some time that they are capable of beating anyone. If you keep winning you can try to get as high as possible. We have to focus on each game”.
Roig Negueroles: “I’m sure Adrián will bring us a lot”
For his part, Villarreal CEO, Fernando Roig Negueroles, was very satisfied with the signing of Adrián López: “He is a player that everyone knows. In the second half of last year’s season he contributed a lot to the team. We were already interested in him in the summer, but it was not to be, he has joined us now though and will be here until the end of the season. I wish we could keep him for longer. I’m sure he will bring us a lot for what is left of the season, both in the league and the Europa League”.
