The U14s (Infantil A) are top of their league without having conceded a goal and having scored 53

Espectacular.

A team whose example should be followed both on and off the pitch. Villarreal’s U14s (Infantil A) have started the season in a spectacular style. The Yellows side are top of their league with record numbers: 33 points from 11 games, 53 goals scored and none conceded. Simply spectacular.

The amount of goals scored stands out, but perhaps even more the complete shut out stands out in their 11 matches. In their last match on Saturday, the U14s beat Elche 3-0 on Pitch 5 at the Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva), showing their quality.

One of the U14s coaches Adrián Esteve, praised his footballers: “We have great players, so it isn’t anything extraordinary that the number of goals scored is so high. What is really remarkable is that we concede few chances to the opposition and that is fruit of the concentration that these players have in every moment, way above what you would expect for any child of that age.”

And it’s not like their in an easy league. “La Liga Autonómica is made up of the best teams and the best sides in the Comunidad Valenciana, so what these players are achieving is amazing. At the moment, they are all motivated to see where they’re capable of reaching,” underlined the coach.

But the U14s are much more than good play and non-stop scoring. The Yellows are taking part in the Endavant Igualtat initiative once more this season, colloborating with the non-profit organisation Creixem de Vinaròs, which helps vulnerable children with their development. In fact, last week, children from Creixem were at the Training Ground, sharing an unforgettable day with the U14s.

The psychological factor is key for this team. At Villarreal, players are made, but people are also formed. Every 11-a-side team in the Yellows Academy has a psychologist integrated into the coaching staff. In this case, María Cosín advices the U14s, as well as the U16s (Cadete A).

“The experience that the players are having collaboration with this organisation helps them to see another world. The world of football sometimes is far from reality and the normal life for a child of their age. What’s more, it helps them to develop values like empathy and companionship, which are important for the lives of anyone. And it helps them continue to grow in the world of football too,” concludes Esteve.
