Moi Gómez has been one of the stars for Villarreal at the start of the season
Villarreal midfielder Moi Gómez has been on fire since returning. The talented footballer, shaped at the Yellows Academy, came back to the Yellows in the summer and has got off to a dream start. The No.23 has two goals and two assists in the first four LaLiga matches. “I’m in a very good place, I’m physically fit and I’m trying to give my best in each match. The coach has shown a lot of trust in me since I returned and as well as that, my team-mates have made it really easy for me. I was keen to return and to show my quality and help the team. Coming back home was really important for me and it was an opportunity I couldn’t let slip away. I thank the club for believing in me and for letting me be back at what I consider my club,” he commented after attending an event at the ASISA offices in Vila-real.
He highlights that the team is feeling good: “It was really important to win the other day, we needed that victory after what had happened in previous matches. We want to continue in good form, but to do that we know we need to get the three points at home. The match against Valladolid is important, as we haven’t won the first two games at home. We want to make our supporters happy.”
Regarding the next opponent, Gómez warned of their dangers: “Valladolid are a team that do things well, a team who have the same amount of points as us and are looking good away from home. They’re a very solid team and we know that it won’t be an easy game. We can’t wait to be at home, to be towards the top of the table, but to do that we know we need to win this match against Valladolid.”
The midfielder also underlined his ambition: “We have a good squad, a team to be close to the top, but we need to go game by game, and next up is Valladolid. We need to take into account that every match is difficult and that there’s not much difference between any of the teams. We know that we’re good in front of goal, we’re a team that creates a lot of chances, we’re doing that well.”
To conclude, he emphasised the importance of being able to adapt on the pitch: “Having a lot of options and possibilities is good. The team is comfortable with all of the possibilities, and the coach decides what we play. Personally, I believe I can play wherever in midfield, which makes it easier for me to play. But there are a lot of players who can play there, there is a lot of competition and a lot of quality.”
