Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo put in a brilliant performance against Real Madrid

Villarreal CF goalkeeper, Sergio Asenjo, showed what he is worth in the victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu (0-1). The Yellow Submarine goalkeeper put in a fantastic performance after recently coming back from yet another ACL injury that kept him off the pitch for nine months. He got back on the pitch against Ponferradina in the Copa Del Rey Round of 32 tie on 30th November 2017 and hasn’t looked back since. He has only let in four goals in six matches (0.6 goals per game) and has kept clean sheets against (Ponferradina, Celta, Valencia and Real Madrid). Asenjo was a real giant at the Bernabéu, making several fine saves to keep out the likes of Marcelo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Modric and Kroos, among others.

After the historic win at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Sergio Asenjo talked about the match: “I’m happy for the team above all. We needed a big win like this and on top of that it’s the first win at the Bernabéu in the history of the club”.
