Villarreal B beat Eibar with a last-gasp goal from Álex Forés

Villarreal B took the spoils after a dramatic 1-0 win. The Yellows knocked out Eibar just before the final whistle. A goal from Álex Forés in stoppage time gave the Yellows the victory when it looked as if they were already too late for victory and the draw seemed to be a foregone conclusion. The Mini Submarine rounded off a fantastic second half in which they played with numerical superiority due to Berrocal’s sending off.

Miguel Álvarez’s team returned to La Cerámica after the defeat against Real Racing in Cantabria (2-0). The Mini Submarine hosted one of the big names in the league. The Basque side came into the game in a strong position to challenge for promotion to the top flight at the end of the season.

Eibar started the game better. They had a couple of chances to take the lead, but were unable to find the target in front of Iker Álvarez. They even managed a goal, disallowed for a tight offside position, scored by Stoichkov.

From that goal, which never made it onto the scoreboard, Villarreal B began a remarkable comeback. The Yellows were determined to attack more frequently and with more determination in their opponents’ half. Even Carlo -after a shot from Ontiveros that the goalkeeper could not block- picked up a rebound in the heart of the area and smashed it into a defender’s leg.

Minutes earlier, Javi Ontiveros showed his cunning on the pitch with a cheeky attempt from the by-line that almost caught Luca Zidane unawares.

Luck smiles on the brave. And the audacity of Miguel Álvarez’s side was rewarded when Jorge Pascual made a promising steal after Arbilla had lost the ball. The Almeria striker saw Collado’s run and quickly gave the ball into space for the Granada striker to have a one-on-one that never happened. Berrocal brought down the Mini Submarine’s No.7 and was shown a red card.

In the second half, the Mini Submarine monopolised possession and pinned Eibar back in their own area. The Groguets were persistent and looked for a loophole in the Basque side’s defence. Their persistence was rewarded with a last-gasp winner and in stoppage time Álex Forés sent the home crowd wild after taking advantage of an assist from Víctor Moreno. 1-0 and three more points in the locker.
