Villarreal U23 beat Tottenham Hotspur U23 and qualify for the next round as winners of Group F

A clean sweep. Villarreal U23 beat Tottenham Hotspur U23 in their third and final match of the Group stage in the Premier League International Cup and qualified for the Quarter-finals in style. The Yellows, led by Miguel Álvarez, have won all three of their matches in this year’s competition against Benfica (3-2), West Ham (0-3) and Tottenham Hotspur (2-0), which sees them finish top of Group F.

The first goal was scored by Cristian Cedrés. The skilful attacker dribbled into the box, cut the ball back and bent his shot around the Spurs goalkeeper and in at the far post (0-1, min. 30).

Just before the break Villarreal scored a second. This time it was centre back Roger Riera who scored with his head (0-2, m. 44).

The Yellows outplayed the home side, dominating the possession and causing Tottenham plenty of problems. In injury time the game got heated and the match finished in a brawl, with three players getting sent off as a result. It should be stated that there was a post-match reconciliation though, as all players shook hands after the game.

Villarreal U23 will find out who their opponents will be in the Quarter-finals of the Premier League International Cup in the coming weeks.
