Villarreal CF and Everton FC have come to a transfer agreement for the Argentinean centre back

Villarreal CF have reached an agreement with Everton FC for the transfer of defender Ramiro Funes Mori, which links him to the Yellow Submarine for the next four seasons. The Argentinean centre back will join the Yellows on Monday 9th July, the first day of preseason at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva).

Funes Mori is Villarreal’s third signing ahead of the new season after the reinforcements of strikers Toko Ekambi and Gerard Moreno were made official in recent weeks. It must also be taken into account that Santi Cazorla will join the Yellow Submarine for preseason providing he recovers from the operation to his Achilles tendon in time.

An all-round centre back

Funes Mori (05/03/1991, Mendoza, Argentina) is a left-footed, top quality centre back with an excellent strike. He is very fast and strong in fifty-fifty situations, especially in the air due to his height (186cm). As well as playing as a centre back, Funes Mori can also play as a left back.

At 27 years of age, Funes Mori has only played for two clubs. He started his professional career at River Plate, where he performed magnificently from the day he made his debut in November 2011. In August 2015, after four years at the Argentinean club, Funes Mori signed for Everton FC. Precisely that year, in 2015, the defender made his debut for the Argentina Senior team, for whom he has played a total of 19 matches (1 goal).

He played 92 matches with River Plate (8 goals), while with Everton FC he played 67 matches (5 goals). His achievements include the Copa Libertadores (2015), Copa Campeonato (2014), Copa Sudamericana (2014) and a Recopa Sudamericana (2015). He won all these trophies with River Plate.

A luxury reinforcement to strengthen the Yellow Submarine’s back line.
