Marcelino believes it is fundamental for his team to make quick decisions and take their chances

Today the Villarreal manager, Marcelino García Toral, highlighted the importance that effort and intensity will play in the Yellows’ next league fixture against RCD Espanyol tomorrow (RCDE Stadium, 18:15 CET, live on Canal + Liga y Abono Fútbol). “Espanyol are more reliable at home than they are away. They play at a high tempo and intensity, and are solid at the back. It’s always a tough game. I expect an intense match, with not much room for us to play. We will have to make quick decisions, defend well and play our cards right when we’ve got the ball. We will have to match them in terms of intensity. It is going to call for a great effort because they will be right there with us all game”.

The manager added that there must be the right balance between attack and defence in the team’s play. “We can’t forget to defend well either. We have to continue doing that and improve in the areas that we must improve in. We want to improve our attacking ability, above all getting into the oppositions’ box more. The fewer times you get there the less chances you have to score. We have to put the work in every day to get better at this. We have always worked on attacking and even though perhaps we got to the opposing area more last year, we weren’t as clinical. We have changed many players since then and have improved on our efficiency in front of goal.

With regard to possible signings, the manager didn’t deny the arrival of any player, but preferred to take the opportunity to thank his team for their great work during the first half of the season. “I train the players I have and perhaps it’s not the right moment to start looking for another wide midfielder just yet. I’m satisfied with the players I’ve got. If an option comes our way, ok, but the players that are here are most important. It’s true that the second round of matches will be very difficult, but I’m satisfied and grateful to the players for the way they are competing. We’re fourth and this group works really well every day”.
