Villarreal B lose in their league opener

The Yellows Reserves fall to Peña Deportiva in an even encounter (1-0)

Villarreal B were not able to kick off their league campaign with a win in the newly structured Segunda División B as they fell to Peña Deportiva (1-0). The only goal of the game was scored by Nacho for the visitors.

Miguel Álvarez set up with quality in the middle of the park and power up front with Kevin Soni and Arana as forwards. The Yellows faced a side that played in the promotion play-offs for the Segunda División A last season.

The first chance of the game fell to captain Juan Agüero. The Yellows No.10 hit a great left-footed strike from the top of the box that was kept out by a feline-like save from Seral (m. 15).

The first half was very even, with no clear goalscoring opportunities for either team.

In the second half, Peña Deportiva took the lead in the 49th minute. A harmless throw-in bounced in the area and Nacho sent it into the back of the net in a goalmouth scrap (1-0).

Miguel Álvarez changed things up by putting on Narro and Hassan, the latter making his debut for the Yellows. The international who has represented France’s youth national teams showed a glimpse of his quality.

The worst news for the Mini Submarine came late on with De la Fuente going off injured after clashing with his team-mate Filip Jorgensen (m. 82).

Villarreal B had a chance to equalise in the 85th minute. Narro controlled the ball in the box and tried to place the ball out of Seral’s reach but the Peña Deportiva goalkeeper saved at the last second. A shame as it was a clear chance.

Villarreal B play their next game against Atlético Levante at the Mini Estadi (Saturday 24th October, 12pm CEST).
