Villarreal defeats Everton with goals by Gerard Moreno and Nahuel

The Submarine ended its English tour in the best possible way. Showing a solid image, Villarreal defeated Everton by 1-2 with goals scored by Gerard Moreno and Nahuel. The summary of the tour is very positive as the Yellows have had 3 victories and just one draw, undefeated in all the matches in the island: Villarreal 1-2 Wolfsburg, Villarreal 2-0 Olympique Lyonnais and Villarreal 1-1 Derby County, have been the other results.

The match served as a tribute to Everton’s former striker Duncan Ferguson, who entered the pitch during the final moments. English international striker Wayne Rooney also took part in the match. Rooney’s first team in the English Premier League was Everton FC and he has a great friendshio with Ferguson with who he shared the forward line of the Blues.

The Submarine was the first to enjoy a clear scoring chance. Leo Baptistao tried his luck from the edge of the box and the ball went slightly out to the right of U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard’s goal. The Everton FC responded before reaching the half hour with a chance for Mirallas. The 0-1 arrived on the 37th minute. Samu Castillejo threw a corner kick, Leo Baptistao headed the ball that went to Gerard Moreno who closed the play sending the ball to the net and proving his “killer” instincts one more time. Marcelino’s strategy worked to perfection. Villarreal got the lead of the score and was strong in the defensive line.

The Submarine kept playing the same way during the second half, solid on the back and dangerous up front. The 0-2 came on the 60th minute, Nahuel stole the ball and faced Howard beating him on the one on one with a subtle touch. Villarreal could have scored the third of the night with two great scoring chances for Alejo and Gerard Moreno, saved by an extraordinary Howard. Everton also had its chance with a header after a corner kick that hit the post.

Moments later, Browning headed to the net, also after a corner kick. With Duncan Ferguson and Wayne Rooney already on the pitch, Everton FC pushed hard to achieve the equilizer but the score didn’t move.
