Villarreal CF will play two friendlies against Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray in early December

Villarreal CF will tour Turkey during the break for the World Cup in Qatar. The Submarine will face Fenerbahçe on Saturday 3rd December and Galatasaray on Tuesday 6th December.

LaLiga, in collaboration with the Turkish Süper Lig, has organised this international activation with Villarreal CFF, with the LaLiga Santander club travelling to Turkey during the break in club competitions due to the FIFA World Cup. This agreement between the two organisations will be a way to continue LaLiga’s internationalisation strategy and give the club the opportunity to make itself visible abroad. The club will be able, together with LaLiga and under the umbrella of Boost LaLiga, to amplify its brand perception and its audiences through a strategic ally such as the Süper Lig.

This international activation offers Villarreal CF the chance to train and play high-level matches during the World Cup break. In this way, the club does not lose the competitive rhythm and at the same time they have a great opportunity to attract new audiences and expand their brand.

Turkey, an unexploited market

Villarreal CF will leave for Istanbul on 1st December and will play their first match against Fenerbahçe on 3rd  December and the second against Galatasaray on 6th December. The following day, on 7th December, the expedition will head back to Spain.

The Yellows are linked to Turkey by two Turkish players who have worn the yellow shirt in the club’s recent history. On the one hand, Nihat Kahveci, a striker in the first decade of the 21st century, as well as, Enes Ünal, the current star of the Turkish national team.

Villarreal CF have also played a total of eight matches against Turkish teams, with a record of four wins, three draws and one defeat. Specifically, in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup they played two matches against Galatasaray, against whom they will face on this tour, and they ended with a win for Villarreal CF and a draw.

LaLiga without borders

Internationalisation is one of the areas in which the clubs are working, through the LaLiga Impulso project. Through various initiatives, the volume of business is constantly growing and it is increasingly common for clubs to develop commercial activities outside Spain.

In both cases, the presence in the territory will help them to make themselves known in a new market, which means a new opportunity in terms of global growth. Moreover, the visibility will be even greater considering that the rivals will be Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, the two clubs with the most Süper Lig titles.

At the moment, the confirmed friendlies for Villarreal during the international break due to the 2022 Qatar World Cup are:

  • Saturday 3rd December: Fenerbahçe vs Villarreal
  • Tuesday 6th December: Galatasaray vs Villarreal
  • Thursday 15th December: Aston Villa vs Villarreal
