Marcelino is aware of Betis danger: “Away from home they’ve won as many points as us or Barça”

This afternoon the Villarreal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, analyzed the current situation of the Submarine, who will face Real Betis in El Madrigal this Saturday (8:30pm CET). “Betis is not doing too well at the moment, but they’ve won as many points as us or Barça away from home. We have to give them the utmost respect and put in a great performance to get the win. To win the three points, we will have to have a better equipped attacking force than in the last two games we’ve played at El Madrigal. In our position every victory is important, just as much at home as it is away. From now on, every match is a final”, Marcelino commented.

Marcelino García Toral joined the club on 14th January 2013 and in the three years since the Asturian manager has led the team in 150 official matches, those of which can be split into 111 league games, 21 played in the Second Division and 95 in the top flight, 18 UEFA Europa League matches and 16 Copa del Rey matches.

His first fixture at the helm of the Submarine was against Real Madrid Castilla on 19th January and the Yellows lost. However, from then on the team’s ascent was spectacular, as they achieved promotion taking them back up to the First Division in that same season. Now, three years on, Villarreal sits among the best teams in Spanish football and currently boasts fourth place in the First Division with 39 points, equalling the best first half of the season performance in the club’s history.

In these 150 official competitive matches, Marcelino García’s record stands at 76 wins, 35 draws and 39 losses. The Asturian manager has a contract with Villarreal until June 2019.

To finish, the Villarreal manager highlighted that his team have to find a better attacking formula against Betis: “We have to attack better, we are capable of doing it and it’s what is called for now. Our attack hasn’t performed as well as expected in the last two games. We want to create more opportunities. On the defensive side we’re doing ok, but when we regain possession we have to be better”.
