The Mini Submarine defeat Barcelona B with goals from Arana, Carlo and Lozano, and move top of the table
It was billed as a big game, and it lived up to the billing. Especially for Villarreal B, who scored three past Barcelona B at the Mini Estadi, thanks to goals from Juan Carlos Arana, Carlo Adriano and Sergio Lozano (3-0). The result took Miguel Álvarez’s side top of the tale, capitalising on Atlético Baleares’ defeat.
The Mini Submarine went ahead early on. Lozano was once more decisive, sending a great ball through to Arana, with the No.9 chipped the oncoming Iñaki Peña. A golazo (1-0, m.3).
The goal gave Villarreal B confidence, and set the Catalan side back, and they ended up with ten men in the 26th minute. Akhomach’s heavy challenge on Lozano was punished with a straight red.
Miguel Álvarez’s side, with 11 men on the pitch, were in control in defence and attack. They could have increased their lead in the 35th minute when Arana hit the bar.
It was 2-0 at the start of the second half. Carlo got the ball at the edge of the box, and sent a left-footed effort into the box which went in off the bar. Pure quality!
The worst piece of news of the second half was an injury to Arana, who had to go off with muscular problems.
Villarreal B increased their lead in the 67th minute. Lozano’s right-footed effort went in, whistling past the post (3-0).
Late on, the Mini Submarine also went down to ten when Aitor Gelardo saw his second yellow card (m.85).
There wasn’t much more time for anything else. A great performance by Villarreal B.
