The Yellows got their first win in LaLiga with goals from Jaume Costa and Sansone

Villarreal bagged their first win in LaLiga Santander 16/17 on their visit to Málaga at the La Rosaleda stadium (0-2) in a match where the Yellows showed how solid they were to pick up their first three points. Fran Escribá’s side showed their great concentration and work ethic against the blue and whites who, despite their determination, watched the Submarine take the victory.

The first half was full of emotions. Málaga came out quick and sharp while Villarreal took longer to get into the game. Although the locals were the first to have chances, Asenjo was alert and kept the Andalusians at bay.

The first thing the Submarine conquered was the ball. The Yellows took control of the centre of the park, although the locals did take advantage of a bad pass, the Submarine had their strategy clear and soon showed their superiority. In the 32nd minute, Santos Borré dribbled around three defenders in the box and found Jaume Costa with a great driven cross and the number 11 fired home at point-blank range past Kameni. 0-1 for Villarreal, but the emotions had just begun.

Seven minutes after the goal, Weligton brought down Santos Borré which was a clear penalty call for the Yellows. But unfortunately, Kameni guessed and dived the right way and kept out Bruno Soriano’s shot from the spot.

However, Villarreal were a whirlwind up top. In the 43rd minute, Sansone went through one on one with the Malaga keeper and even though Kameni stopped his first shot, the Italian-German made no mistake with the rebound, making it 0-2 to the Yellows. There could not have been a better present for Nicola Sansone, who turned 25 today.

The second half was also full of emotions. Malága went in search of the Yellows goal with a vengeance to get the goal that would get them back into the game, but the Submarine, who were strong up front, got a cheer from the crowd every time they got into the Andalusian area. In the 47th minute, Sansone was solo against Kameni again, but the Cameroonian made a great save and prevented the 0-3.

As the minutes ticked by, the Yellows were more and more in control of the game, getting the ball down and containing Málaga, who despite their hardwork could not get past Asenjo. The blue and whites had a few chances, but none that were clear cut, and the score board did not budge.
