Rodrigo Hernández scored for Spain U21 and Rukavina qualified for the World Cup

Villarreal’s centre midfielder, Rodrigo Hernández, was one of the key players in Spain U21 thrashing of Slovakia U21 (1-4) in a qualifying match for the upcoming U21 European Championships. The Yellows number 16 started and played the full 90 minutes for Spain and even scored the third goal of the game for his country. Pablo Fornals also played a part in the victory, coming off the bench in 76th minute to replace Oyarzabal.  

For his part, Antonio Rukavina also shone for Serbia, helping his country to victory over Georgia (1-0) and qualifying for the Russia 2018 World Cup in first place in Group D with 21 points in 10 matches. The Yellows number 22 started and played 90 minutes of the match that fell in Serbia’s favour due to a Prijovic goal.  

The Villarreal CF players who did not get any minutes with their respective national teams were Carlos Bacca (Colombia) and Enes Ünal (Turkey).

Nacho Díaz played a part in Spain U17 4-0 win over Nigeria U17

The U19 A team striker, Nacho Díaz, came on in the 83rd minute of the match vs Spain U17 against Nigeria, corresponding to Matchday 2 of the World Cup being held in India. Spain won 4-0 and depend on themselves to get out of the group in their last match against North Korea. This time, Carlos Beitia and Marc Vidal did not get any playing time.

Antonio Rukavina (Serbia): 

  • Friday 6th October: Austria-Serbia (3-2).
  • Monday 9th October: Serbia-Georgia (1-0).

Rodrigo and Fornals (Spain U21):

  • Tuesday 10th October: Slovakia U21-Spain U21 (1-4).
