The midfielder underlines that he is ‘at the manager’s disposition’ in his official presentation

New Villarreal midfielder Javi Ontiveros underlined his satisfaction when he was unveiled as a new Yellows player: “It has been a complicated transfer, but the most important thing is that I’m here. I’m happy for this new challenge in my career. I hope to be at my best for the team,” he commented.

Ontiveros arrives in Vila-real from Málaga CF: “It’s been a very long summer. At the end, the wait has paid off. They told me that it was going to happen, but it started move slowly as time went on. I was a little bit nervous, but at the end it happened and we’re all happy.”

According to the winger, his aim was always to end up with the Yellows: “I never doubted it. I knew that the transfer was going to end up happening sooner or later. I’m now focused on helping the team. Villarreal have shown a lot of trust in me and I hope to return that trust placed in me on the pitch.”

For the skilful player, Javi Calleja’s side is perfect for his style of play: “Villarreal is a team that plays football very well. From the first moment, my intention was to sign for Villarreal. I’m available for the manager for when he needs me. The dressing room is really united. My team-mates have welcomed me and said they will help me with whatever I need.”

The 21-year-old underlined that competition within the team will be healthy: “There is good competition and I will try and fight to get the team as high as possible in the table. Last season was alright. I will try and be as best as I can possibly be to help the team.”

Roig Negueroles: “Ontiveros is going to bring a lot to us”

The man who officially welcomed Ontiveros to the club was CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles, who admitted his frustration at the time it took to confirm the signing: “The transfer took a long time, but finally he’s here. We would have liked for him to have taken part in pre-season with the team, but that couldn’t happen. He’s a young, talented player and we’re sure that he’ll bring a lot to the team. It’s going to be a fruitful relationship for the next five years and hopefully even more.”

With regards to the start of the league season, Roig Negueroles analysed the match against Granada. “We would have all liked to have started with a win. It was a strange match against Granada. We didn’t know how to defend a lead. At least we have a point more than this stage last year.”
