The Yellows sponsors CaixaBank have launched a charity initiative that has already raised €2m for food banks

Villarreal sponsor Caixabank has launched the charity initiative ‘No Home Without Food’ (Ningún Hogar sin Alimentos’, which has already raised €1million in a month. It has been calculated that the number of calls and individual requests for help with food to charities and food banks have increased fourfold. Due to this growing demand, the Fundación La Caixa has decided to double the amount, with an additional €1million. This will bring it to a total of €2million, which will be shared between the 54 food banks associated with the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (Federación Española de Bancos de Alimentos – FESBAL).

The aim of the campaign supporting the food banks is to respond to, in an exceptional situation, the social emergency as a result of the medical crisis, as well as covering the demand usually needed, which bas been affected by the current situation.

More than 16,000 donees have joined the campaign to date, with an economic donation through the CaixaBank operative channels, via Bizum, with the number 38014, or by sending an SMS with the word ‘ALIMENTOS’ to 38014, or on the website www.ningunhogarsinalmentos.org.

A small donation, a great help

With a donation of just €2, food banks can provide basic food for someone for a whole day, and for 20€, it is enough for a small family for a week. In times like these, food banks need to provision for the most basic stock, and products for babies, such as milk, as there are 41,000 of its users who are nursing.

Facing this new crisis, food banks have established a terminal of minimal services after the suspension of regular operations for collecting food and other donations. They can keep the goods in their workshops but need to substantially increase the food being bought, as well as relying on economic donations to battle the lack of resources. The food banks’ provisions are distributed through the assisting charities that are registered by public administrations.

In Spain, more than 10m people, 21.5% of the population, are at risk of poverty or social exclusion according to the AROPE indicator.
