Both played 90 minutes defending the colours of Argentina and Slovenia, respectively

Three footballers from the Villarreal First Team squad played in international fixtures over the past couple of days. Two of them (Musacchio and Jokic) were starters for their countries, as both played 90 minutes for Argentina and Slovenia, respectively. Santos Borré was not chosen to play in Colombia’s match.    

Musacchio started and played 90 minutes for Argentina in their Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Paraguay, which the visitors won 0-1 thanks to a goal by Derlis González in the 18th minute. For his part, Rafael Santos Borré did not play in Colombia’s draw against Uruguay (2-2), which was also a qualifier for the next World Cup. The goals were courtesy of Aguilar, Mina, ‘Cebolla’ Rodríguez and Luis Suárez.

Bojan Jokic was also a starter and played the full 90 minutes in Slovenia’s match against England. The Villarreal left back was a key player in his country’s 0-0 draw in a match played in Ljubljana, also a World Cup qualifier.  

Edgar Ié, starter in Portugal U21s thrashing of Liechtenstein

The Villarreal B team’s Portuguese right back, Edgar Ié, also played yesterday for his U21 national team. Edgar Ié started and played 90 minutes of the match that finished in a 1-7 thrashing of Liechtenstein.
