Villarreal B host Burgos this Sunday at 4:15pm CEST at La Ceramica
Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared at the press conference ahead of the Mini Submarine’s match against Burgos CF at the Estadio de la Cerámica, which will take place this Sunday at 4.15pm. He underlined the team’s desire and good work, despite the recent adverse results and the need to start winning, especially at the home ground.
Here is what he had to say:
The team’s shape
“Last week there were people who got into the session, even if they were conditioned, and this week we got people back and that, in the starting team and on the bench, makes us stronger. Lekovic and Pablo have done practically everything. The team leaves a great feeling, but there is the defensive issue and when we are missing certain people we notice it and when they are there they help us not to make those youthful mistakes and to stay in the games. It’s a toll to pay when you have a young team, but in the second division it’s huge because any mistake takes you out of the game. We are still a team that offers very interesting things, but we have to win”.
Mistakes penalise a lot
“In football, we’ve always known that. The penalty areas are vital, both in terms of finishing and in terms of keeping a tight rein. As a result of our inexperience, we are conceding more and we lack finishing. On the other hand, we are happy that a lot of young people are coming through in a very difficult division. The team continues to play well and wants to win, and that makes us optimistic. We’re fixing things along the way, although there’s still a lot to do, but getting people back gives you more stability.”
The opponent
“We lost 3-2 there. They’re a team that, as the matchdays have gone by, the head coach’s idea has taken shape and they’ve also made a few signings. Now they’re up there. Until we play teams in our league, we have to beat these teams because if we don’t, it won’t happen. If we are at the level, we are closer to being able to win. If we want to be close to staying in the division for another year, it’s vital at home.”
