Quique Setién hailed the work of his players after the win against Espanyol
Villarreal CF coach Quique Setién praised the victory achieved by his side against Espanyol (0-1) after an intense match: “We have achieved a victory that will be very good for our state of mind. We need to regain our confidence. We did it with a lot of suffering, but we also had a lot of chances. The important thing is that we got three points. It’s great for us to work with more optimism and calm.”
It was a hard-fought win according to Setién: “It’s not easy to win any game. There is a lot of equality in LaLiga and to win you have to know how to suffer. I would have liked to have defended better with the ball, but it wasn’t possible because Espanyol also did well. The win is the most important thing because now the mood is positive.”
The team is still assimilating the new concepts. “At times, I liked the team a lot. We had the ability to have the ball, managing to get forward with danger. We have to adjust things in defence. Espanyol created chances for us that we should avoid. We’ll adjust little by little,” analysed Setién.
Finally, the Submarine coach stressed that the World Cup break will be good for the team: “The break is good for us. It’s fundamental. There are a lot of things we need to talk about. Until now we haven’t been able to work in training. It’s been a whirlwind. I’ve had practically no time for anything.”
