Calleja congratulated his squad for their deserved achievement and effort throughout the entire season
Villarreal CF Manager, Javi Calleja, shared his satisfaction in the press conference after beating RC Deportivo and having mathematically secured European football for next season: “We’ve achieved, a minimum, of sixth place. There’s a chance for us to finish fifth and be able to avoid the playoffs. I am so proud of this team. It is a huge success to play in Europe for the fifth consecutive year”.
The Yellows boss also wanted to highlight how well his players have worked: “I’m so happy. This has been a good first season. We’ve achieved the goals that we set out to achieve when we took the reins of the team. The players have been an example of commitment and dedication and together we have achieved this. Now, it’s time to celebrate and on Saturday against Real Madrid it will be a celebration for all of our fans”.
Lastly, Calleja wanted to recognise Deportivo’s efforts, a team that are already relegated, but made it hard in every moment: “They’re a great team. With the ball they’re really dangerous. Even though we were able to score more than them, they competed very well and fought for the match until the end”, he concluded.
