The U19s draw in Zaragoza and stay in the U19 Copa del Rey (1-1)

Villarreal U19s (Juvenil A) reached the quarter-finals of the U19 Copa del Rey after drawing 1-1 against Real Zaragoza. The Yellows made the most of the 2-1 advantage from the first leg at the Mini Estadi at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva).

The home side used the wind that was in their favour in the first half to create chances on Filip Jorgensen’s goal. After two warnings, Real Zaragoza scored. It was in the 34th minute when Francho got on the end of a loose ball on the edge of the box and placed a left-footed strike into the back of the net (1-0).

In the second half, and with the wind on their side, the Yellows’ dominance was constant. Their high pressing caused the home side errors as they were playing the ball from the back.

The equaliser came from a set piece. Dani Tasende put the ball into the box, and Francés, as he tried to clear, put the ball into his own net (1-1, m.48=. From then, Zaragoza collapsed, and Villarreal could have killed off the match with a number of clear goalscoring chances.

As the game drew to its close, the home side’s nerves saw them finish with two sent off, after Vela (m.88) and Jesús (m.93) saw red.
