Villarreal Women lose in the derby against Valencia Women at the Mini Estadi
Sara Monforte’s side were unable to continue their good form, losing against Valencia in a match where the Yellows deserved a lot more (0-2).
The Yellows went into the game looking for their second win in a row. In the fifth minute, Belén Martínez, who gave Sara Monforte’s side the win with two goals last week against Levante, had the first chance of the game, with a shot that went into the side netting of Noelia Gil’s goal.
Villarreal didn’t led Valencia breathe, and from a set piece, they had another chance. Pancha Lara’s corner was nearly deflected in by Sheila Guijarro, but a defender cleared it off the line.
Monforte’s side continued looking for a goal to put them ahead. Sheila nearly got it after a Belén cross, but the ball was off target.
It was 0-0 at half-time. Villarreal had created more chances than Valencia, who had barely troubled Elena de Toro. It was all to play for in the second half.
There was a high tempo at the start of the second half. De Toro saved Villarreal Women, getting an important foot to a good effort from Valencia. Monforte’s side continued pushing forward, and Paolo Soldevila nearly got the opener in the 75th minute.
But in the 79th minute, Olga San Nicolás, who had just come on, got on a loose bal in the box to score the first for Valencia. Approaching the end of normal time, Candela Andújar made it the decisive 0-2 with an unstoppable effort.
