The Yellows head coach was pleased with his side’s performance despite them not taking their chances

Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media to analyse the defeat at El Sadar to Osasuna (1-0). The Basque head coach believes the team put in a good performance, but lacked cutting edge in front of goal, underlining that the worst thing about the afternoon was the injury to Alberto Moreno. Here are the key points from what he had to say:

Alberto Moreno’s injury

“As well as the result, what most affects us is Alberto’s injury. The first reaction isn’t positive, but we are going to wait to see what the tests confirm. He’s an important player. He was playing well and was a threat for the opposition.”

Osasuna’s change of system

“We knew how Osasuna were playing recently. In every game I’ve played against them with Villarreal, they’ve set up with a different system. We managed to deactivate their aggressive press, which they’re capable of doing if they feel strong. In the first half, we had better chances to score. In the second, the goal changes the game, and gave them more confidence. From there, the game slipped away from us bit by bit.”

Imprecision in front of goal

“We went into the game after scoring four goals in Granada and five against Espanyol, but the opposition condition you and so do certain circumstances too. We were doing well with Alberto arriving into the box, Yeremy’s chance and Estupiñán’s goal which was ruled out. We did things well, but we were unable to do enough to make the difference today, despite being present in their area. After the goal, they got stronger defensively.”
