The Yellows draw without goals against Real Sociedad

Villarreal was left with a point after their visit to Anoeta (0-0), during which the Yellows, similarly to last week, created more than enough opportunities to leave with three.
Because of unfortunate circumstances, Marcelino started with Jaume Costa as a midfielder and Campbell as the furthest striker, next to Gerard Moreno. That is why maintaining positions and obtaining confidence throughout the match was the first thing on everyone’s mind.

The Yellows deserved more luck as they had clear opportunities to get in front. Even though the home team dominated during the first fifteen minutes, it was the Submarine that got the upper hand afterwards. 21 minutes in, Pina’s header from a free kick ended up sailing just over the bar. Marcelino’s men played with pace and fierce during their best part of the match.

Goalkeeper Rulli stole the show by keeping a clean sheet and by stopping a difficult attempt by Trigueros just before half-time. Asenjo was tested for the first time in the second half. The Spaniard showed his class by stopping a header from Iñigo Martínez, as well as Castro’s shot from close range.

Nine minutes from the end, Moi Gómez delivered a ball from the left side perfectly to Fran Sol, who played his first match in the Primera División, but he shoved it wide of the post. The game ended with two crosses from Jonathan dos Santos. The first from a free kick resulted in a disallowed goal by Víctor Ruiz, while the second from a corner, resulted in a strong header from Mario that hit the post. Tough luck.
