The Villarreal captain is optimistic ahead of Spain’s clash against Italy

Villarreal CF captain, Bruno Soriano, has been one of the key players for the Spanish national team at the UEFA EURO 2016 tournament in France. The centre midfielder from Artana has already played two matches in the tournament against Turkey and Croatia, but now he is only thinking about the next one. This Monday his opponent will be Italy (6pm CET, on ‘Telecinco’). “We see Italy as a very strong national team. We respect them 100% and it’s clear that they are a very passionate team with great players. It’s true that we have to study them, but I think if we play well they are the ones that have to be worried”, Bruno commented.

For the Yellows captain, the defeat against Croatia should not diminish Spain’s morale: “After the loss the other day all the players have reviewed our performances. We have to think about ourselves. Every player must focus on playing to their best. The other day Cesc and Silva were playing very well and we used that. Before that it was Iniesta and that’s how it goes. We all try to be at 100% to win every match”.

According to Bruno, defending Spain in EURO 2016 is a huge honour: “It gives you confidence playing with this group. I’m really proud to play with my teammates in the EUROs. I hope to be able to keep up this level of confidence for the match against Italy. Those that have more experience are giving us good advice to make sure we beat Italy”.

Lastly, Bruno emphasized that to beat Italy, Spain must stick to their way of playing: “We’ll prepare for the match with the manager and we’ll go out there knowing what we’ve got to do. We have to focous on Italy, but also on us”.
