The youngster from Almassora has received an academic excellence prize for his school work at Year 6 and Year 7

A talent on the pitch and a prodigy in the classrooms. Alejando Moreno Gil, Villarreal 13s player, has this year received an academic excellence prize for his excellent results in the classroom during the third primary education cycle (Year 6 and Year 7). It is more-than-deserved recognition for the hard work and effort a promising young footballer has put in on and off the pitch.

This school year, the 12-year-old from Almassora left middle school Germans Ochando to go to secondary school, IES Vila-roja, where he hopes to maintain the excellent academic path that he has been following so far: “Now it is all a bid harder, but the key to success is hard work and commitment. With this, you can get to where you want to.”

Alejandro is a clear example of how to combine football and studies successfully is possible: “I need to put in a lot of hard work to get this recognition, but it’s a reward for my effort. I need to thank my parents for their help. They definitely help me a lot with my studies. They are always at my site, and without them, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have,” he explains.

On the pitch, the young football is a midfielder. He is a classic holding player who tries to control the tempo of the game, and gets his team ticking: “I’m a No.6 in the defensive style. A balanced, solid player who tries to help the team.” He looks up to Santi Cazorla: “I love how he plays and the vision he has. I try and learn from him. Another player I’ve always looked up to is Andrés Iniesta. He’s a magical player who distributes the ball excellently.”

In his short sporting career, Alejandro has had a number of unforgettable memories: “I fondly remember the trips I have done to Japan, to New York for LaLiga Promises. You get chances to know a new city, to play in a massive tournament and do it alongside your team-mates. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment.”

Like all boys of his age, he has a number of hobbies: “I like video games, especially ones to do with football like FIFA. I like to watch football and films and of course spend times with my friends.”

Despite his great academic results, this promising youngster is unsure what he would like to do in the future as a job: “I’m still really unsure. Of course I would love to be a footballer, but if I don’t make it, I think I would love to work in a profession to do with sport, something like a PE teacher in a school.”
