The Yellow Submarine must overcome the leaders of LALIGA Hypermotion to continue their cup journey (Wednesday, 7pm CET)
Villarreal CF are eager to continue their exciting run in the Copa del Rey. To keep progressing in this prestigious knockout competition, the Yellow Submarine will have to get past Racing Club, the current leaders of LALIGA Hypermotion, this Wednesday at 7pm CET at El Sardinero.
The Cantabrian side are one of the most in-form teams in Spanish football. They are a tough opponent, especially strong at home, in one of the most iconic stadiums in Spanish football. Villarreal’s last visit to this venue dates back to the 2012/13 season in the second tier, when the Yellow Submarine claimed a 0-3 victory thanks to a brace from Uche and a stunning goal from club legend Manu Trigueros.
Marcelino’s side arrive at this cup tie after a brief competitive break, caused by the postponement of their match against Levante UD due to the adverse weather conditions that affected the Valencian coastline.
Meanwhile, Racing drew 1-1 against Leganés in their most recent league fixture, a result that allowed them to remain top of the table. The Santander-based club are aiming to return to the top flight, a division they left in the same season that Villarreal suffered their second relegation to the second tier.
In the Copa del Rey, Racing have eliminated SD Logroñés (0-4) and SD Ponferradina (1-2), while Villarreal have progressed past Ciudad de Lucena (0-6) and CA Antoniano (1-1, 3-5 on penalties).
