The Villarreal head coach has analysed the upcoming match against Real Madrid (Saturday, 9.00pm)
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media this Friday ahead of the afternoon training session to analyse the build-up to the match against Real Madrid, corresponding to matchday 21 of LALIGA EA Sports, which will be played this Saturday at 9.00pm at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The triumphant return of Pape Gueye
“In principle, yes, he will be available tomorrow. I spoke to him yesterday and he was happy about being crowned African champions and having played such a key role in the final. He hasn’t come back with any injury. He trained normally yesterday and, if nothing unexpected happens, he will be available.”
Analysis of the opposition
“We know they have enormous individual potential. They’ve had ups and downs during the season, which led to a change on the bench, and whenever there’s a change of coach, the players get a boost. But the truth is that Real Madrid, regardless of all circumstances, have a lot of quality. Players of a very high level. And when they’re on it, focused, intense and playing collectively, they can beat anyone. We’re going to compete and we’re playing at home.”
An exciting match
“We have an attractive game coming up, a match you’re excited to play, at your stadium with your fans. We’re facing a game that we know will be difficult, but at the same time, very exciting.”
Focus on the Submarino
“We have to focus on ourselves. Real Madrid, regardless of the coach, always have top-level qualities. We need to attack with purpose. And we know that in attack they’re a dangerous team when there’s space and absolutely decisive thanks to some of their players.”
Reasons to compete
“I don’t think winning tomorrow is more important than winning at any other time, but it is important because it brings you closer to the highest level. We know how difficult it will be, but we have to compete. We have arguments. We have to reach our best level. It will take an almost perfect match from us and a bad day from them, and we have to be clinical in front of goal.”
