The Submarine get their fifth win of pre-season
Villarreal CF beat Levante (3-1) in the penultimate match of the European Summer Tour 2022 Color Star, in a friendly at the Mini Estadi at the Miralcamp Training Ground, thanks to goals from Rober Pier (OG), Fer Niño and José Luis Morales. With this win, the Submarine continue unbeaten in pre-season ahead of the last game ahead of the season on Saturday at 8pm CEST.
With an intensity that was closer to an official game than a friendly, the Yellows went ahead in the 16th minute. Pervis Estupiñán crossed into the box, and Pier was unfortunate to send it into his own goal. Unai Emery’s side went ahead on the score board, and ten minutes later, the lead was increased. Juan Foyth found Nico Jackson, who opened the ball up for Samu Chukwueze, who beat his defender to find Niño in the 25th minute, with the striker making it 2-0.
There weren’t many chances for either team in the second half. However, in the 70th minute, Morales was brought down in the penalty, before stepping up from the spot to find the net for the first time as a Yellow.
The away side were putting in a number of heavy tackles and Kiko Femenía, who came on as a half-time substitute, was forced off with ten minutes left.
In the closing stages of the game, Vicente Iborra pulled one back for Levante, heading in a corner.
With this win, Villarreal get their fifth win from seven in pre-season. Unai Emery’s team will end pre-season against Inter Milan on Saturday at 8:30pm CEST at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara.
