Villarreal CF presented their two winter signings, Alex Freeman and Alfon González, on Friday in a press conference led by the club’s CEO, Fernando Roig Negueroles, held in the Estadio de la Cerámica press room.
The Yellow Submarine executive introduced both players and welcomed them to the club. “We believe Alfon will make a great contribution in the final stretch of the season to help us achieve our objectives,” he said of the winger from Albacete. He also praised the young American talent: “He has great potential, and we have full confidence in him in the short, medium and long term.”
Alfon: “I’m happy and eager to help the team with my work”
During his appearance, Alfon thanked the club for their trust and promised to put his work and qualities at the service of the team: “I’m excited and happy to be here. I’m injured at the moment. I want to recover as well as possible, and in three weeks I hope to be able to help the team with my work.”
Regarding his style of play, the Spanish winger described himself as a direct footballer with an eye for goal: “I like to get into shooting positions, try to score goals and take players on one‑on‑one. I’m a fast player and I hope to contribute my work to the team. I think I can fit in well here because of the playing style, which focuses on playing close to the opposition box.”
Freeman: “I want to show my level in top-level football”
For his part, Alex Freeman highlighted that arriving in LALIGA is a major step forward in his career: “It’s a step forward in my career. I want to show my level in a top league like Spanish football. I trust my abilities, and that’s why I came to play for such a wonderful club like Villarreal.”
“I wanted to prove my level. I wanted to take a step forward and show that I can be a good player in LALIGA. It’s a big step in my career. I trust my abilities, and that’s why I came here to play for such a fantastic club as Villarreal.”
Along the same lines, Freeman emphasised the need to adapt quickly to help the team: “There’s a difference compared to MLS. Here the game is much faster. I have to make decisions quicker and face wingers with a lot of threat. I need to adapt fast so I can help the team and give 100% in this new stage. Marcelino has already told me what I need to do.”
Finally, the Baltimore‑born player described himself as a versatile footballer and acknowledged that he hopes to refine his qualities in Spanish football: “I’m used to attacking and defending. I want to be versatile and offer the team options in both phases of the game. I like to help with goals and assists. Defensively, I also want to improve and win my duels. I’m working to become the best player I can be.”
