Villarreal CF will try and get their second win in the Conference League against Hapoel Be’er Sheva (Thursday, 9pm CEST)
Villarreal CF will face Hapoel Be’er Sheva (Thursday, 9pm CEST) at the Turner Stadium in a match corresponding to Matchday 2 of the UEFA Europe Conference League Group Stage. The runners-up in the One Zero League and 2021/22 State Cup winners will be the second opposition in this competition for Unai Emery’s side, who after a frenetic 4-3 win over Lech Poznan in their first Group C match, will try and get three more points to continue to lead the group.
The Yellows have never faced Hapoel Be’er Sheva – despite being a team who have played in European competition in nine different occasions – but the Yellows have faced an Israeli team in twice in Europe, both in the 2017/18 and 2020/21 and got two draws against Maccabi Tel Aviv (0-0 and 1-1 respectively) against Maccabi Tel Aviv (both in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League).
Be’er Sheva, second up in the Conference League
Hapoel Be’er Sheva, founded in 1949 and known as ‘The Camels’, are a historic side who have won their league title five times and the national cup three times. Elyaniv Barda’s side currently occupy second place in Group C with a single point from a 0-0 draw with FK Austria Wien in their opening group game.
The Turner Stadium is their home ground, and has become a real fortress on European nights for the team from the city of Beersheva: nine wins, two draws and just one defeat is Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s home record in their last 12 matches in European competition.
