The Yellows goalkeeper has reached 186 continental matches against Panathinaikos and equals Iker Casillas

Pepe Reina continues to break records. The Villarreal CF goalkeeper has become the Spanish player with the most appearances in European competition in history after starting against Panathinaikos, equalling the impressive record of 186 games also held by Iker Casillas.

At 41 years of age, Reina is already the second player of all time to have made the most appearances in European competition. He is second only to Cristiano Ronaldo, who has played a total of 197 official matches.

The Spanish goalkeeper has achieved this impressive number of games thanks to his perseverance and professionalism, which has allowed him to enjoy a brilliant career of more than two decades playing in the elite of European football.

He played his first continental match for FC Barcelona on 7th December 2000 in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup against Bruges. Now, almost 23 years later, he has played his 186th game against Panathinaikos in the UEFA Europa League group stage.
