The Yellows goalkeeper renews his contract for another season, continuing to defend the Submarine goal until 2023/24

Villarreal CF has reached a contract renewal agreement with Pepe Reina, who will continue to be linked to the club for the 2023/24 season.

The experienced Yellows goalkeeper, who returned to Villarreal last summer, played a total of 32 matches this past season: 22 games in LaLiga, 7 in the UEFA Europa Conference League and 3 in the Copa del Rey. As if that weren’t enough, Pepe Reina played his 1,000th official match as a professional this past campaign. The club paid him a special tribute for reaching this impressive milestone prior to the match against Cádiz CF.

Pepe Reina has played a total of 179 official matches for Villarreal in two different stages (2002-2005 and 2022-2023). Throughout his professional career, he has also defended the goal for FC Barcelona, Liverpool FC, SSC Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Aston Villa and SS Lazio. What’s more, the Yellows goalkeeper also had an illustrious career with the Spanish national team with whom he won the World Cup (2010) and two European Championships (2008 and 2012).

Renewal ‘made in’ Pamesa

Pepe Reina visited the facilities at Pamesa Cerámica, main sponsor of Villarreal CF, to seal his contract renewal with the Yellow Submarine. There he was presented with a commemorative shirt by Fernando Roig, club president and maximum shareholder of the Pamesa Group.
