The club has renewed the manager’s contract for the 2023/24 season

Villarreal CF has reached an agreement with Miguel Álvarez to renew his contract with the Yellows for the 2023/24 season. A well-deserved reward for the coach from Jaén who, after achieving the goal of survival in LaLiga Smartbank, will face a new season with the aim of continuing to add presences with Villarreal B in the second tier of Spanish football.

Miguel Álvarez, a legend of the Villarreal academy

Miguel Álvarez Jurado (Guarromán, Jaén, España, 27th March 1958) has renewed his contract with the Mini Submarine for another year. Next season will be the seventh in a row for Álvarez, who arrived at the Yellows Academy in 2017, and who continues to add to his legendary status with the B team. Miguel is, with 210 games – with a record of 87 wins, 57 draws and 64 defeats – the head coach with the most games under his management at Villarreal B.

Since taking charge of the Mini Submarine in 2017, Miguel Álvarez has played a total of four promotion play-off campaigns in six years. A spectacular record. His greatest achievements with Villarreal B include promotion to the second division in the 2021/22 season after an excellent promotion campaign, beating Logroñés in the semi-final and Gimnàstic de Tarragona in the final, and survival in the recent 2022/23 campaign.

Beyond his magnificent career at the helm of the B team, Miguel Álvarez has done an excellent job in the development of young talent from the Yellows Academy. Pau Torres, Samu Chukwueze, Yeremy Pino, Nico Jackson and Álex Baena, who have grown under the Andalusian head coach, are clear examples of this.
