The Villarreal coach highlighted the difficulty of the match and expressed his excitement about playing in the Champions League
Villarreal CF head coach, Marcelino García Toral, spoke to the media this Monday in the press room at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to preview Tuesday’s clash against the English side, which kicks off at 9pm CEST and marks the Submarine’s debut in this season’s Champions League.
In his press conference, the Asturian coach underlined the big challenge that awaits in London:
“It’s going to be very tough because they’re a great team that invested heavily this summer. They are intense, press a lot, and play with speed and aggression. They’ll create plenty of danger at home. They have very good players and want to improve on what they did last season.”
As for the key to getting a positive result in London, Marcelino stressed that Villarreal must show their most competitive side: “We need to be at our very best. It’s essential to be competitive. If we manage both, we’ll be close to winning.”
On the other hand, the Villarreal coach shared the pride the team feels in competing in Europe’s top competition: “We come here with great excitement. This is the best club competition in the world, and it’s a source of pride for everyone at the club. It’s also a reward for the players’ hard work — they’ve earned the right to play in this tournament. We want to enjoy it. Playing against the best players in the world makes you grow a lot competitively.”
