Villarreal overcome their opponents in a closely contested friendly at the Mini Estadi
Villarreal CF claimed victory in the friendly against Levante (1-0), played on Wednesday morning at the Mini Estadi of the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground. It was a closely fought and competitive encounter that was decided by a goal from Logan Costa following an individual move by Mikautadze.
The first half began with both sides enjoying spells of possession. Villarreal had the first chance through a Cardona effort that Pablo Campos tipped away without holding. A few minutes later, Levante responded with two very promising opportunities for Mandi and Brugué. On both occasions, Gulácsi denied the visitors with two composed saves.
In the 19th minute, Nico Pepe once again threatened the Levante goal with a direct free-kick that Pablo Campos was forced to push away. After the cooling break, Levante grew into the game, although without creating any clear-cut chances to open the scoring.
In the second half, Iñigo Pérez turned to his bench in an effort to share minutes among his players. With so many changes, the tempo of the game dropped slightly in the opening stages after the restart.
In the 62nd minute, Logan Costa put the Yellows ahead by finishing off a scrambled move inside the box, after Mikautadze had caused havoc among the Levante defenders. The Cape Verde international received the ball from Moleiro and fired it into the net.
Levante pushed for an equaliser and came very close three minutes later. Víctor García was unable to connect with a cross that flashed across the face of goal.
