Villarreal CF and Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement for the loan of Giovani Lo Celso, who will return to play for the Yellows during the 2022/23 season.
The Argentine midfielder has signed his contract with the Yellows, has passed his medical and will join his team-mates when they return from Saturday’s league match against Real Valladolid. The presentation of Lo Celso as a new Villarreal player will take part in the coming days in an event exclusively open to the media.
An eagerly awaited return
Giovani Lo Celso (Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, 9th April 1996) is a talented attacking midfielder who has already shone while playing for Villarreal CF. The Argentinean joined the Submarine in January on loan and put in some excellent performances, both in LaLiga and in the UEFA Champions League, where the Yellows reached the semi-final stage.
The footballer has excellent technical ability and a lot of quality. He has a fantastic left foot and is a specialist in finding the perfect final pass. He can also dribble with the ball, has great visión and a fantastic shot.
Lo Celso is a senior international with Argentina, with whom he was lifted the Copa América (2021) and the Conmebol-UEFA Cup of Champions (2022). He has represented his country for a total of 39 games, scoring two goals.
The new Yellows midfielder, who once more joins Villarreal on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, has also played for Paris Saint-Germain, Real Betis and Rosario Central.
On a club level, the Argentine has won the following titles: two Ligues 1 (2017/18 and 2018/19), two Coupes de France (2016/17 and 2017/18), two Coupes de la Ligue (2016/17 and 2017/18) and two French Super Cups (2017/18 and 2018/19). All these titles were won while at Paris Saint-Germain, some under current Villarreal head coach Unai Emery.
